Existing Outcomes


Part A

What is the purpose of the different features of a basic platformer game?

Attribute or Feature
Purpose
Sprites/Characters
Sprites are like the main character. It is being controlled by the arrow keys to complete a level or to move on the next stage.
Background/Backdrops
Backdrops/Backgrounds are the scenery to know what is happening in the level or to understand what’s going on to understand the level
Obstacles/Objects
Obstacles/Objects help make the level or game more challenging for the player
Commands - Click/space to start
It starts the game
Commands - Arrow Keys to move
The Arrow keys help the sprite move from one place to another
Commands - Mouse to control
Using the mouse to control what’s going on in the game
Commands - Space/Arrow keys to jump
Using Space or the Arrow Keys to jump over an object or obstacle
Music or Sound
Makes the game more interesting and sets the mood
Missions/Levels/Stages/Rounds
To know if you have completed a stage to move onto the next
Colour
To match with the theme of the game or to make it colourful
Title or instructions
So the player knows how the game works
Lives
It has a limited option for lives. Once it hits the limit game restarts
Scores/Points
To know how you did and the progress you have made

  3. Fill in the table to identify the various attributes or features of the different platformer games.
